Meantime, listed here are the Venues, Musicians and hopefully soon, memories of gigs and Jazz activities in the Dundee area during that time.

After WW2, Jazz meetings were held in a room above the undertakers on Lochee Rd.
Nat Gonellas Georgians played at the Palais in the 1930's.
Blackness Hall was a popular venue for young dancers. Dundee folk developed a serious interest in the late 1940's.
The Empress Ballroom hosted many of the visiting bands. Bertie Kings band were resident initially. Bertie came from Jamaica and was a wonderful musician.
The Empress was visited by Harry Cole and his pieces of 8, The Vic Lewis Orchestra, Leslie Douglas and a young Johnny Dankworth.
In 1959, Acker Bilk performed at The Palais and at the Caird Hall, the Ted Heath Orchestra, Count Basie, Eddie Condon and many more famous bands performed.
The Dundee Jazz club (Parker street) started in the 1950's and the Pelican Jazz Band were in residence followed by The East Coast Jazzmen.
