Do That

"Do That" c.2005 K.Murray

Well it seems theres a fashion, an old human passion for fitting in, not me , i dont do that
if this is a civilised society, its missing its humanity
and dont know, somehow its wilfully blind

Somehow our gods are technological
needs psychological, life biological
a moment in time, then nothing, i dont buy that
we've got labels for this, labels for that, labels for
everything and everywhere and everyone
just labels on a map

They say its a new kind of order, its just another border
its just a wishing well, dont kid yourself
well honey if it seems real nice, you can bet its a vice
its a major distraction from where the real action is
i dont do that

So we have new evangilists rebuilding rome
selling us soap and keeping us home
man made boxes of shadows and light
they talk all day then they mock all night
we
we should be talking
men and women
but we dont do that
anymore

no we do our
typical, cynical, token intellectual, smart but ineffectual
we do that
and when we rally to a statement, we get crtics and resentment
endless meetings and amendments
smoke in the wind

so we stay
comfortable and ignorant, complacent and indifferent
silent and beligerent, tears in rain
we do that
they say theres a place and a time for political rhyme
they must be your rules, they're not mine
i dont do that

well right here right now, its not a matter of how
you draw a line in the sand and anyone can
and i do that right now
we'll do our
syncopational, harmonic inspirational
discordant confronational
music of peace and of pain
no gain
lets do that
right now.......

This was the 1st song i had written and recorded that didn't make me feel sick when i listened back to the vocal. Its a rant on distractions like, Lifestyle, the Media, Experts etc, with a plea for action via Jazz!!.

Mario recorded the fretless at the Forge in Balmerino, while i added the Strat and I took the bare bones of that session to Sound Cafe where Me, John Rae and Brian Kellock recorded acoustic guitar drums and piano parts.

The rest was added at the Forge , deep in the Sidlaws. I play piano for the vocal and then Brian takes over for the coda. The only other keyboard is my trusty DX7 MK 1.
