Las Canteras

"Las Canteras" c. 2009 K.Murray

Julio its sunday and we're still on our feet
so lets go where we know the sky and oceans always meet
at Las Canteras

Las Canteras

lets call the guys and tell them, to meet us on the street
we'll take the bus uptown and flirt with all the girls we meet at
Las Canteras
Las Canteras

Sun in the sky
and happy people walking by
sound of surfbeat on the sand

julio tres guitarra, pas cantar et cancion
arregla la tristeza y mundo se ve mehore

And Julio bring towels and later we can swim
if anyones reluctant, we can always drag them into
Las Canteras
Las Canteras

And later we'll play football against the local guys
pretend we're Maradona's, to catch their girlfriends eyes
Las Canteras
Las Canteras

Sun in the sky
and happy people walking by
sound of surfbeat on the sand

julio tres guitarra, pas cantar et cancion
arregla la tristeza y mundo se ve mehore

And Julio when night comes and the city's under starts
before the imans song has sent us home via the bars of
Las Canteras
Las Canteras

Before we wake on monday, with the passing of the moon
we'll promise Las Canteras, we'll come back to see her soon oh
Las Canteras
Las Canteras
y mundo se ve mehore

julio tres guitarra
cantar et cancion
arregla la tristeza
y mundo se ve mehore

arregla la tristeza
y mundo se ve mehore
y mundo se ve mehore

Las Canteras is about an era of fabulous musical collaborations and an infamous beach in Las Palmas, some years ago. John Rae, Julio Pacheco, Fredy Sanchez and myself played in the band "Sex and Violence" . It was a truly international crew hailing from Cuba, Venezuela, Canada, Spain, Scotland and Gran Canarias, the rehearsals were conducted in spanish, portugese and broad scots. The different flavours created some great fun and exciting gigs and the afro cuban rhythm section was just fabulous to play against.

I recorded the basic click track at the forge and emailed the form and lyric to Julio in Las Palmas. I wanted Fredy to play the drums on this one, because i know his playing from S+V and love it and because it was the only way to do the song properly. Committed to getting Fredy, i recorded the guitar and mandolin parts and solo's at the Forge. I went out to LP in August 09 and had 2 days in Zula studio with Julio and Fredy . Fredy did the drums in complete takes, in his underwear eventually, because it was 42 degrees C, despite air-conditioning . we recorded the vocals there as well and Julio later recorded the Cuattro at his home studio and emailed it to me in Scotland.
