"New Day" c.2008 K.Murray
I used to be somebody i used to have a life
i used to have some prospects well i even had a wife
then luck made me a parent and i had to take that road
all my prizes up and vanished as i raised the seedlings sowed
          and saw them grow
now i know that all the cliches i ignored
were simple truths and maybe more cause
        every cloud has silver lining
you've no chickens till they hatch
        don't leave anything to fate
and you will always meet your match
finding diamonds in the roughs tougher than needles in the thatch
        and tomorrows a new day
i learned to fear the coming day, became a hypocrite
i followed parent footsteps and i missed more than i hit
i caused my kids to scratch their heads in wonder at my ways
and even those of no relation found me hard work on most days
        now i know
that if you let all of your feelings show
then you will reap some things you did'nt mean to sow
      woken dogs bite
sticks and stones hurt when they strike
        fortune often takes a hike
and if you've never seen the like
        if your horizons lookin cloudy
        tomorrows a new day
now my kids know me much better than i ever knew myself
and now that they have flown the nest
i'm put back on the shelf
but i'll not let the dust settle i'll not fade away
and before i learn to shuffle this old dog will have his day
        in clover
and as i watch my kids at play, know nothings over
until that fat old lady sings
as long as cabbages are kings
and loves a many splendoured thing
as long as magpies harvest rings
well i will dance until a disney coloured
        mornings birdsong brings that
        new day
tomorrow is just a new day
tomorrow i'll find a new way
tomorrow is just a new day
