Giant Steppin Stanes

stanes

At the tail end of the live recording of one of my tunes in 91, there was a wee magical moment. a combination of someone lifting a bow, while a soprano left a mouth, a whistles last note faded to a breath. Its a loop from one bar of a coda from which emits an angelic magical sound, a combination of many musical elements and chance. You might hear it in 'Angels Tears'.

The Giant Steppin Stanes were originally me, John Rae, Sandy Wright and Tommy Smith and for therapy, or for a bet we all took on mandolin, fiddle, melodian, penny whistles and Irish/Scottish/Celtic music. Freddy Thomson became an integral part and the crew quickly grew.
